The Machine That Was in a Hurry is presented here in its original 2021 version for piano and vibraphone, built around fast, repetitive figures and a constant sense of propulsion. The music unfolds with minimal harmonic variation, emphasizing rhythm, pulse, and insistence rather than melodic development.
The piano provides a rigid, almost industrial structure, while the vibraphone introduces brightness and resonance, creating a contrast between precision and shimmer. Together, they evoke the idea of a system in perpetual motion, driven by urgency and mechanical repetition.
In 2022, the piece was reinterpreted with a different instrumentation and released as part of the album Tied Strings, where the same musical material was transferred to a string ensemble. This version replaces the percussive clarity of the original with sustained tension, transforming mechanical urgency into continuous pressure.
