Brassing Reflections is a collection of eight original compositions for brass quintet, exploring different ways of perceiving the world.
The album does not follow a single story. Instead, each piece becomes an independent musical reflection on a different phenomenon or experience: a place, a movement, a moment of anticipation, an emotion, a natural object, a physical law, a beginning, or what remains after something disappears.
The word Reflections refers both to contemplation and transformation. Each subject is not simply described, but filtered through music and reshaped through harmony, rhythm, texture, dynamics and the distinctive resonance of the brass quintet.
From the nocturnal atmosphere of Recalde at Night to the lingering traces of After the Neon Fades, the album moves between external landscapes, internal experiences and abstract phenomena, creating a collection that is diverse in subject but unified by its instrumental voice.
Eight Reflections
01 · Recalde at Night – Place / atmosphere
A nocturnal reflection shaped by urban atmosphere, ambiguous harmony and the distinctive resonance of the brass quintet.
02 · Spiral Stairway – Movement / space
A reflection on movement and space, built around recurring harmonic patterns that shift and transform, creating a sense of continuous circular motion.
03 · Waiting – Time / anticipation
A reflection on time and anticipation, where suspended harmonies and recurring material create the paradox of moving forward while remaining suspended in expectation.
04 · White Lament – Emotion / melancholy
A reflection on contained melancholy, shaped through repetition, suspended harmony, expressive gestures and contrasting brass colours.
05 · Loquat – Nature / perception
A reflection on nature and sensory perception, transforming a concrete natural reference into an abstract musical impression.
06 · Lenz’s Law – Force / reaction / interaction
A reflection on force and interaction, where recurring musical material and contrasting layers suggest action, response and transformation.
07 · Beginning – Origin / emergence
A reflection on beginnings: how an initial idea emerges, takes shape, changes and eventually returns from a different perspective.
08 · After the Neon Fades – Absence / persistence
A reflection on what remains after something disappears. The nocturnal imagery of the title becomes a meditation on absence, persistence and lingering traces.
From Night to What Remains
The album opens with Recalde at Night, an exploration of nocturnal urban atmosphere, and closes with After the Neon Fades, reflecting on what remains after the light disappears.
This is not a narrative connection, but a subtle circular gesture: the album begins in the night and ends by contemplating what is left behind when its lights have faded.
